Judging by the figures for the 3rd quarter presented by the freight exchange platform Teleroute, road transport has not been severely affected by the economic slowdown.Teleroute does indicate, however, that the figures for the 3rd quarter are not as good as those from the first year half, but hauliers' order books are still generally full. Teleroute has also observed a continued increase in debt mediation.

Janusz Lacny has been re-elected as IRU President for the 2012 2013 term.He is also vice-president of the Polish road hauliers' federation (ZMPD) and CEO of the transport company JMJ-Trans, which he founded in 1991. The new IRU vice-presidents are the Belgian Yves Mannaerts and the Spaniard Pere Padrosa.

The European Commission has ordered Portugal to improve its compliance with the Eurovignette directive.Portugal is required to transcribe the directive into national legislation but has failed to do so thus far. This is resulting in a risk of discrimination against foreign transport operators. The country must comply with the rules of this directive within two months, or it could be summoned before the European Court of Justice.

TOLL2GO is the result of a partnership between the ASFINAG (GO-Box System) and Toll Collect GmbH companies. This service will allow hauliers to use the current Toll Collect unit (On-Board Unit or OBU) to pay toll charges and road taxes in Germany and Austria.
